I’m a Teacher, Scholar, and Pastor committed to social and ecological justice informing all aspects of church life.

My Work

My research examines how Christian finance and stewardship approaches tend to emphasize neoliberal values and entrench white privilege - and what we can and must do to change that.

I also focus on many intersecting issues of social and ecological justice, in dialogue with progressive Christianity.

Topics I address include:

Stewardship and Fundraising

Justice-Rooted Finance

Progressive Christian Ethics

Dismantling White Privilege

Feminism & Gender Justice

LGBTQIA2S+ Diversity

Climate Ethics

De-colonial Analysis

Progressive Theology

Children and Youth Ministry

What I offer:

  • Academic teaching/lecturing

  • Congregational presentations, preaching, and teaching

  • Workshops for church committees (i.e. social justice, finance, trustees, etc.)

  • Coaching and consulting

  • Retreat leadership

  • Visioning and long-range planning

  • Workshops for youth and young adults

  • Contact me to discuss other possibilities!

“By trying to “save” our churches through neoliberal and conventional approaches to finance, we are already dead because we have ceased to be the church and to be Christ’s followers. But, if we cease to fear the “death” of the church and turn instead to living by our radical commitments to economic justice, we may well find that we have new life. That “life” may not be full pews and full offering plates, but instead it may be a greater relevance and service to our communities and to our world.”

Testimonial

“Dr. Johnson presented a session for our Adult Education hour. It was very informative and Dr. Johnson presented in a very approachable and accessible way. Her work provided a great foundation for our congregation to continue to reflect on and learn from.”

- Rev. Sarah Strosahl-Kagi, Royersford Baptist Church
